Welcome to Blue Research
What we offer
Aquaculture and fishery
Blue Research offers development and advising within Blue Bioeconomy. Our development and advising covers cultivation and fishery of mussels, oysters, and seaweed, as well as permissions and environmental effects within the production of fish in aquaculture. Blue Research advises on production, environmental concerns, management, and business development.
Marine restoration
The cultivation of seaweed and mussels can, when combined with stone reefs or transplanting of eelgrass, contribute to removing nutrients from coastal waters, promoting biodiversity, and bonding CO2. By growing and transplanting these species, we can protect and restore a healthy marine environment. Blue Research is happy to help with the development of these possibilities.
Communication and development of nature experiences
Blue Research offers courses in nature
interpretation and the development of nature experiences. We have many years of experience and a strong and competent network. We develop and adjust courses and competence programmes in close collaboration, so optimal outcomes can be achieved.
Who are we?
Marine biologist Per Dolmer has extensive experience advising on sustainable aquaculture developments, establishment and management of seaweed and mussel farms, development of new areas of marine business, preparation of environmental documentation for fishery and aquaculture, and development strategies. Per’s research and consultancy have supported developments in management and production methods for fishery and aquaculture. Today, Per advises mussel producers on business development within mussel farming, as well as within new areas, including ecosystem services, such as capturing nutrients and establishing mussel beds or eelgrass to promote biodiversity.
Marine biologist and nature interpreter Mette Aaskov Knudsen has worked for 30 years with the development of nature interpretation, and she has for 20 years been responsible for the training of nature interpreters in Denmark. Mette has a large network within the recreative uses of, among other things, coastal areas and the development of tourism and the experience economy. Mette has developed and taught courses for nature interpreters and other communicators of nature on the development of sustainable tourism and protective uses of nature for the experience economy.

Projects
BALTIC MUPPETS
This project examines the production of blue mussels in the Western part of the Baltic Sea. Among other things, we investigate how small mussels may be utilised in the petfood industry and develop new farming systems on the seabed. The project is financed by the EU. See the project website here.
TETRAS
The project found new solutions within landbased aquaculture in the Baltic Sea area. Blue Research was part of two business initiatives: handling production water from landbased fish farming on Lolland-Falster and the production of warmwater shrimp in Lithuania. The project was financed by EU – Interreg Baltic Sea Region. See the project website here.
